Hello hostgator and goodbye www.hetzner.co.za
I’ve been hosting my websites with hetzner since 2003, when I first launched a website. Over the years, I’ve also grown the number of websites that I own, which meant my hosting account also increased.
Unfortunately with the local website hosting companies they only offer 5GB per month of bandwidth and anything beyond that you pay every cent. My freight exchange portal www.bid2load.com recorded 13,636MB in March which translated to R2, 590 from my pocket.
Adding a new parked domain also accumulated its own costs, meaning every domain is charged separately irrespective if it’s parked or not. I happen to own eleven domains all hosted by www.hetzner.co.za and my bill for March amounted to R4, 148.58 with only 14,820MB of bandwidth consumed.
In January 2009, I moved my hosting account to www.mediatemple.com however the page loading time proved to be too slow; therefore within days I was forced to revert back to hetzner.
This time around though, I must thank fellow blogger Chris Mills who owns www.imod.co.za who recommended hostgator. His blog loads pretty fine and after following his blog for sometime am comfortable with moving my hosting account to hostgator.
Compared with hetzner, hostgator offers the follow basic package:
There is no limit to the number to the domains you host and unlike hetzner which charges each domain is separately each month.
