Soccerwires.com – the business affairs of the game

My next niche blog will exclusively focus on the business affairs of the beautiful game – soccer. Current blogs within this market only focus on the game itself.

With this blog, am hoping to introduce readers to behind the scenes of running a professional soccer club in South Africa. A soccer team is a diverse entity with loads of complimentary departments which do not get the media attention normally associated with the foot soldiers being the players.

All this has lead to the decline in work ethics, since various departments do not put all their weights in ensuring the machine is well oiled to be the next Real Madrid. Only a few soccer clubs here in South Africa have monopolised sponsorships and trophies for a long time, while the smaller teams survive on shoestring budgets.

This is evident with:
- live games, where fans don’t support by attending at stadiums
- teams don’t have permanent base since they don’t own stadiums
- clubs don’t sell seasonal hospitality packages for families to enjoy a live game
- coaches being fired within a blink of an eye, if miracles are not forthcoming…this has become an acceptable trend to the detriment of the beautiful game
- quality of skills recruited in the boardroom and field of play is not suitable for the game
- teams fail to market themselves in order to attract sponsorships
- players fail to adhere to a professional code of conduct, making headlines for all the wrong reasons
- the player’s union has no teeth, since not all teams recognized it
- not all teams own merchandise outlets and any related revenue streams outside of game to spread the brand

With this blog, I hope to open new business opportunities for all involved and confirm that this industry offers endless opportunities only if you’re conducting your club affairs professionally.

I’ll be doing a series of postings leading up to the final birth of this new blog…
