Insurance rip-off

Am insured by Standard Bank Insurance for vehicle and household cover. When I joined them, their underwriter was Hollard Insurance and they recently changed to SA Underwriters.

I called them this week, seeking to change my partner’s vehicle cover as we’ve sold the previous car which was R500 pm premium cover. The new vehicle was quoted at R2000pm and obviously we rejected it.

Their reasoning for the high premiums is that their rates are based on their new underwriter, while everything on our cover is still based on the previous underwriter being ‘Hollard’.

We shopped around and Outsurance was able to offer a R500 pm premium, even though we’ve never used their services before.

In my opinion, consumers are being taken for a ride big time…we must learn to shop around before we’re ripped off.

Hippo can’t give you an outsurance quote as well – go to http://www.outsurance.co.za and they will phone you back with a quote. No paperwork or hassles – very easy to change to them even if you currently have insurance with another insurer.
